AFL CEO Andrew Dillon announced yesterday that 1,000 more tickets will be allocated to competing club members for the 2024 AFL Grand Final.
The increase takes competing club member allocation to 35,000 (17,500 per club), with the extra 1,000 member tickets in 2024 coming from AFL corporate and premium hospitality allocations.
AFL Fans Association (AFLFA) President Ron Issko expressed gratitude on behalf of fans, “We thank the AFL for increasing the Grand Final ticket allocation by an additional 1,000 for competing club members. This season, 1,000 more members will have the opportunity to experience their team playing in the Grand Final, which is fantastic news.”
For many years, the AFLFA has advocated for a higher allocation of tickets for competing club members. In 2017, the AFL increased the Grand Final ticket allocation to members by 4,000, bringing the total allocation to 34,000 (17,000 per club), which was very welcome news.
"Today, we have over 32% more club members compared to 2017, with club membership in 2024 at 1.2 million compared to 907,561 in 2017. Therefore, we believe that more tickets should be allocated to competing club members,” explained Ron.
Earlier this year, the AFLFA called for an additional 6,000 tickets to be allocated to members, bringing the total to 40,000 (20,000 per club). Following the Collingwood Grand Final ticketing challenges of last year, Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly also called on the AFL to increase the allocation to 20,000 per club.
Ron acknowledged the AFL’s commitment to working with the clubs to find more tickets and recognised the need to accommodate the interests of other stakeholders, such as sponsors and corporates.
“At our next regular meeting with the AFL, we will propose increasing the allocations to 20,000 per club for season 2025 and will suggest several pathways to achieve this,” Ron stated. “Fans are the largest stakeholders in the game, and every year, many devoted club members miss out on seeing their team play in the Grand Final after following them all year, at home, away and interstate in the rain, hail or shine. Increasing the allocation to 20,000 per club helps address this issue,” Ron concluded.
